TEENZ.FM - A FINANCIAL LITERACY PROGRAMME BY AFFIN INVESTMENT BANK
We have made education as the main driver for our corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts, Why education? In a nutshell, education can Make a Difference to communities; hence the theme for our CSR programme, or “MAD”, for short. We are embarking on this project with the objective of making a difference, to ourselves, to our workplace and to our community at large. Education is the passport to progress, it can transport a community out of poverty, it can create opportunities not otherwise possible. With this in mind, we have been organising financial management workshops for young teenagers with the catchy title, Teenz.fm (Teens Financial Management).
Teenz.fm focuses at the early education of financial matters and has been designed specifically for young teenagers, particularly school children in Forms 1 and 2. The programme basically covers 5 aspects - Concept relating to financial matters, Ways to earn money, Spending wisely, Controlling and recording finances, and How to grow money. It is conducted using the accelerated learning methodology that makes learning highly interactive, fun and lively using games, analogies and simulations to make learning fun and interesting.
More than 400 students from more than 30 schools have attended our Teenz.fm workshops in 2008 which were were very well received by the participants and the Ministry of Education, and we plan to conduct more of these in the future. Teenz.fm was officially launced by the Deputy Education Minister in Putrajaya on 14 November 2008.
